In late March under the cover of Covid-19 the NSW Government approved dangerous coal mine expansion under a Sydney water reservoir for the first time in 20 years.
Massive mining corporations are muscling in on our politicians during this time of crisis. They think no one is looking, and are using the pandemic as cover to make huge profits by passing shady decisions that risk catastrophically damaging to our planet.
We must protect our drinking water from Peabody at all costs. We must protect the hundreds of thousands of people who rely on this water catchment.
This sets a terrifying precedent. There are other mining companies like Peabody and South32 desperate to start mining in our water catchments. We must stop them getting their foot in the door.
Tell the NSW Government:
1: No mining in our water catchments. Ever.
2: No decisions to favor mining corporations during the pandemic.
3: Make mining companies stump up bonds covering up the entire amount critical failures could cause, not just a tiny fraction.
