Climate change is causing damage all over Australia. Unprecedented bushfires have destroyed ancient forests and homes, cyclones and flooding have devastated communities and heat records are being broken again and again.
A federal election will be held this year and climate change is the number one issue for Australian voters.¹ Despite that, neither political party is taking action on climate change seriously. The scale of the threat is huge, but the Coalition has no credible climate policy, and the Opposition's policies don't go anywhere near far enough the prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
Take action now. Call on both major parties to immediately commit to replacing all coal-fired power stations with renewable energy by 2030!
Australia's ageing coal-fired power stations are dirty, expensive and increasingly unreliable. We must move quickly to replace all coal-fired power stations with renewable energy by 2030.
REPLACE COAL WITH RENEWABLE ENERGY!
THERE IS NO TIME TO WASTE
OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE RENEWABLE
Like old cars, equipment in coal-fired power plants needs replacing often, and repairs can take days.
Last year, black coal plants in the National Energy Market broke down 74 times (once every five days).³ When they trip, they can’t be switched back on quickly, making blackouts more likely to occur.
Luckily, the solution already exists. The only thing lacking is political will. We must replace coal-fired power stations with renewable energy by 2030.
Solar and wind power is cheap and reliable. Battery storage like the Tesla big battery in South Australia can save the day during peak electricity use, supplying stored energy quickly into the grid.
